The OD subdivision

Since the last 10 years a small group of sailors within the 2,4mR community has been working for
a transformation of the open 2,4mR class into a one design Norlin Mk III class.

Since the class has been used as the single handed equipment in the Paralympics there has also been
a pressure from the ISDF and the Olympic organization to provide an improvement to the
Appendix K in the class rule that has been controlling the boats used in the Paralympics.

This has created a lot of tension within the class as it would exclude a great number of sailors and
boats from the class. As the opinion against such a transformation was very strong the final motion
for the 2007 AGM was to introduce an OD subdivision based on the Norlin Mk III design.
The proposed class rule change was accepted at the 2008 AGM and is now being scrutinized by
the ISAF. How the final writing will look and when it will be in effect is still not known.

However the last two consecutive AGM“s held in 2007 and 2008 has made it clear that the class will remain an open 2,4mR class with the addition of a OD subdivision based on the Norlin MkIII design.
All boats will first and foremost sail and measure as 2,4mR yachts.
